Student of the Game – Pension Risk Transfer

CAPTRUST Senior Director and Asset/Liability Practice Leader Grant Verhaeghe conducted a Student of the Game session for advisors on pension risk transfer (PRT). Student of the Game is a CAPTRUST specialty, an informative session with the goal to educate advisors on emerging issues relevant to their clients.

This session focused on pension risk transfer, which CAPTRUST believes is the key tenet in managing risk in pension plans. Verhaeghe introduced Mike Devlin, senior partner and owner, from BCG Terminal Funding Company as CAPTRUST’s partner to assist its clients with PRT. Clients will need someone to assist with meeting fiduciary obligations and placing annuities. CAPTRUST advisors can now step in, with enhanced knowledge and BCG’s solutions, to address client needs and concerns.

Plan sponsors are increasingly interested in PRT because they are facing increasing costs and volatility in defined benefit plan funding. Pension risk transfer also allows plan sponsors to focus on their core business and remove ancillary risk. Together CAPTRUST and BCG will make use of their dedication to holistic advice and service-oriented solutions to mitigate this risk for plan sponsors.
